The battle is not yours!

Our farm was blessed in 2024 with 10 sweet baby goats. But not without a small hiccup. One of our little babies named Denver had struggled since he was born. A few days after he was born Leah ran to the barn to see him when she found him barely clinging to life. For the next few hours she and Elizabeth held and snuggled him while using a medicine dropper to drip milk into his mouth. They fed him back to health. We thought he was finally out of danger and tucked him in for the night only to wake up the next morning to a lifeless baby Denver. A reminder to us all that God chooses
life and death and both of those are out of our control. Not just on the farm do we experience both life and death so we must tether our hearts to God and trust Him in all of the details. Scripture tells us we don’t have to be afraid or worry about any of this.

Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10

The same morning we lost Denver a coyote ran through the yard chasing our chickens and our 3 dogs chased the coyote then Allen chased the 3 dogs. A farm circus unfolded in a matter of minutes which ended in Penny, our red healer, chasing a skunk through the yard. Later that day after a long day of barn chores and being completely exhausted we realized the skunk sprayed near our garage. The strong smell flooded not only our garage and vehicles but also our home. Just didn’t seem like we could catch a break.

Days where it seems nothing goes right and I feel the weight of the world resting on my shoulders I tend to go straight to questioning God and His plan for us. We all have these moments and it doesn’t seem like we are going to recover from what life is giving us. One battle after another until the struggle, fear and heart ache seem to overshadow any happiness we could be experiencing.

I love the story that unfolds in 2 Chronicles 20. Jehoshaphat was experiencing a time full of fear and a battle that was heavy on his shoulders. A group of people came up against him and his kingdom. This caused him great fear but the first thing that he did was seek the LORD. Jehoshaphat called the nation to do a public fast. All of Judah gathered together in fasting and prayer. Jehoshaphat then called out to God in praise and in need. God spoke to His people through Jahaziel with this scripture in vs. 15.

And he said, “Listen, all you of Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you, King
Jehoshaphat! Thus says the LORD to you: ‘Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of
this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s. 2 Chronicles 20:15

The battle is not ours, it belongs to God. Thank You LORD for taking on our every battle big and small. I need to remember this example no matter the size of battle in front of me.
