For The Joy Of Daffodils
It’s funny how life works out and how the Lord steers us in different directions even indirectly in ways that seem simple and unimportant. But I do believe he works for our own joy, even in silly little things like daffodils blooming.
It’s late winter, technically, but the signs of early spring are everywhere and the first sign for us is daffodils blooming.
We have a small little patch of daffodils near our garden/orchard area that was planted many years ago by my grandmother. I love this little patch and get plum giddy every year when they bloom. So much so, that I am working every year to expand her patch, planting more daffodils.
Well this year I took a book and my bible out to sit in my old white rocker out by the daffodils while the kids played and read the psalms and a few relaxing pages out of “Springtime In The Country” when the poem by William Wordsworth about daffodils blew open. As fitting as it was, I just loved it!
Then as I scrolled pinterest one night, a daffodil unit study from Etsy popped up and here came a whole nature study idea. By the next day, we were flipping through beautiful pictures of daffodils and printing anything and everything we could find.
So I figured I’d write up all that we used for this and have it ready for any future additions we may find on down the road.
I split this up by topics: Intro to daffodils, science, math, language arts/poetry, art study/craft.
I am just giving and showing and reading as much as my girl will tolerate alongside her reading lessons and scripture study each day for this. If we don’t finish everything in one day, we’ll just rotate until we finish. Or not, really this is just for fun for both of us, not an actual part of her homeschool must do’s.
Spring Daffodil Nature Study Video(s)
Below is a playlist- on the right hand side, toggle between videos in the playlist to see all the times I’ve made them. And come join me at the farmhouse if you want!
Unit Studies:
A few of these were just a couple of bucks on Etsy, and one I believe is even free as a sample of a larger spring pack. I mixed and matched based on what she’d enjoy and what was reasonable for her age and development. The rest I have stashed back for future use. I loved every single one of these, and there are even more on Etsy!

Books:
Springtime In The Country– This book is out of print I am guessing. I thrifted this forever ago and it does not have a traditional author written. I looked into it a bit and it seems to be just an off the wall print with Nancy Skarmeas listed as the editor. There’s not a lot of information. I linked the amazon listing (yikes) that had the picture with it but saw a few cheaper options. I would check Christianbook.com or Thriftbooks.com!
Floret Farm’s Cut Flower Garden by Erin Benzakein– We liked to flip through the pictures of different varieites to look at their colors.
A Child’s Book of Poems by Gyo Fujikawa (Illustrator)– This came with our Memoria Press Kindergarten Bundle Curriculum and it has a beautiful illustration for the William Wordsworth poem that matched what was in my Springtime in the Country book and the unit studies.
